A church fire is being considered suspicious by the Buffalo County Sheriff's Department.
The fire started at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fountain City just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The sheriff's department said they're now looking for a potential suspect in connection with the fire.
Officials said all three levels inside the church located on Hill Street have damage and it will likely be closed for some time, however, the department could not confirm how the fire started or where it started, there are also no damage estimates at this time
“We would encourage anyone who saw anybody in the vicinity of the church this morning please contact the sheriff's department at 608-685-4433. Said Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy, Lee Engfer. “Whether it was something where it was someone outside the area that they don't normally see in that vicinity or not we'd be interested in knowing what they saw and when they saw.”
No one was injured or inside the church at the time they responded.
The investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Fire Marshall’s Office
