While some may be on the hunt for deer this weekend, others are hunting for bargains. As holiday shopping begins, many are supporting local businesses this season.
Fox 25/48's Tajma Hall has more on downtown Eau Claire’s holiday season opener.
Local shoppers aren't waiting for Black Friday to score bargains, instead many are kicking off the holiday season by supporting downtown businesses.
"Holiday shopping definitely kicks off this weekend here in Downtown Eau Claire. All the stores are really geared up for the big holiday season and as you can see, a lot of them are already decorated up so by all means now is the time to come on downtown and start enjoying the holidays."
Sunday's sunny weather made Barstow Street the perfect stop for shoppers hoping to get a head start on their gift giving.
"Came downtown today, and we've been popping around, there's a couple of things that were on our lists and we've been able to check them off at businesses down here."
And while shoppers are busy checking items off of their lists, they're also supporting the community.
"We know statistically that, a much, much larger percentage of what you spend goes right back to your community than if you're shopping at big box retail."
Some see shopping locally as a great way to put the money in your wallet right back into the community you live and work in.
"If I can go to a big box store and spend twelve dollars on a pair of mittens or a couple bucks more to get them hand knit by a local family here, I know that I’m helping to literally pay mortgages."
"Shopping small is really close to my heart. I love supporting local businesses and especially in downtown Eau Claire. It’s got such a great, vibrant scene and so many new cute shops."
Downtown business owners say they appreciate the community support this holiday season.
"You feel better I think when you connect with others and shop locally and support your downtown and support your city and we all gain from being able to raise up that bar of local purchasing."
