If you went to any prep sporting event in the Eau Claire or Chippewa Falls area, chances are you got to see Billy Noss working on the field or in the stands.
On Tuesday, Noss passed away at the age of 78.
The Eau Claire Cavaliers tweeted the news Tuesday afternoon, the tweet read "it's a sad day for Eau Claire baseball."
Whether he was working security or just bringing foul balls back to the field, Billy always brought his trademark smile and enthusiasm to local sports for the past several decades.
In 2014, Noss was named an honorary member of the Eau Claire Police Department for all his help in the community.
Two of Billy’s closest contacts were local broadcasters, Hayes Callaghan and Dave Hanson, Billy’s legal guardian.
On Tuesday, Hanson said Billy had been battling a bit of an illness the past few weeks and the end was peaceful.
"I think the shock of it's there. He knew a lot of people, so I mean that's going to be the biggest thing. But I think we have to remember Billy’s smile, Billy’s participation, Billy’s enjoyment of what he was involved in and something that hopefully we can all carry in our lives in each day that we go through," said Hanson.
Hanson said arrangements are pending, but any remembrance will likely to occur next week.
