Scheels Honors Firefighter as Hometown Hero

One area retailer is honoring a ‘Hometown Hero’.

Scheels store in Eau Claire is recognizing Mike Bahr for his service through firefighting and work with the Rutting Ridge Foundation.

The foundation helps kids and adults who are disabled experience outdoor settings by providing tracked wheel chairs and outdoor adventures.

Through a vetting process, the Hometown Heroes program chooses 13 heroes across the Midwest and travels to create videos capturing their stories of service and sacrifice.

Scheels said the stories air monthly as part of American Heroes Outdoors episodes, running on multiple media platforms.

“The more we receive in donations, the more children we are able to help out: more chairs we are able to donate so, I'm hoping it helps to get the word out a little more in what we do and what we're about,” said Mike Bahr, vice president of the Rutting Ridge Foundation.

“It's pretty exciting. He's one of my best friends; we’ve done a lot together and he's a special person. He has a big heart, and it's what it's about,” said Jarrad Fluekiger, president of Rutting Ridge Foundation.
