While economic issues are still being felt across the food sector, a new survey shows only a third of rural bankers feel their economies are experiencing recession-like conditions. The Rural Mainstreet Index showing more than 8-out-of-10-bank CEOs believe restaurants and bars are experiencing the greatest losses due to coronavirus. While only 3 percent believe farmers have the most negative impact from the pandemic. For this month, the index climbed above growth neutral of 50 to 53.2. The organizer of the survey saying it’s because of government payments to farmers.
Coronavirus concerns have caused another popular farm event to go virtual. The American Farm Bureau Federation announcing its 102nd Annual Convention will be held online. The event will take place from January 10th through the 13th. Registration will be open later this year and will be free to all attending.
Check this out bacon lovers, a drone that delivers bacon! The Illinois Pork Producers Association developing the hashtag to pass the bacon campaign on Facebook. People were encouraged to nominate their local food pantry to receive the pork by commenting on a post. Of the nearly 2 thousand entries, seven food banks were chosen at random, and several nominators received bacon delivered by drone right to their home.
