About 25-million people will get a boost in their food stamp allocations this month. The Biden Administration says it’s part of an executive order adding a billion dollars to the program each month. It’s estimated low-income Americans spent 8.4 billion dollars a month on food using SNAP and Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer benefits during the pandemic last year. That’s an 86-percent increase over a comparable six-month period in 2019.
New numbers show last year was a big year for eating beef at home. Certified Angus Beef saying it took 2.43 million cattle to supply the 608-million pounds of its beef cuts sold by 3-thousand retail partners last year. That’s more than the volume of all USDA Select beef.
Check this out federal officials say a man from Guyana was caught at a New York airport…trying to smuggle more than two-dozen birds into the country… in hair curlers! U-S Customs and Border Protection says officers seized 29-finches from his baggage. The birds are now being cared for by the Department of Ag’s Veterinary services. The man wasn’t charged but he was fined 300-dollars and placed on a flight back to Guyana.
