Farmers along the Gulf Coast are racing to finish harvest ahead of another tropical storm. Tropical Storm Delta could hit the gulf, anywhere from Louisiana to Florida likely as a hurricane, later this week. Farmers in Louisiana are still trying to clean up after Hurricane Laura. Brandon Vail said, “Insurance has stepped in at this point. They know what I had in the bin and they know my totals, so they’ve had a salvage company come in and start sucking it out with vacuums because we didn’t have power-up until a day or two ago.” Brandon says the rice being salvaged will be used for pet food or made into cattle feed.
Washington state Ag officials are trying to find and destroy a nest of six murder hornets near the farm town of Blaine. Also known as the Asian giant hornet, it’s the world’s largest at 2 inches and can decimate entire hives of honeybees and deliver painful stings to humans.
There’s a new record holder in the blueberry world. According to Guinness World Records, this Ozblu berry is officially the largest berry ever certified. It comes in at 16-point-2 grams and it’s also more than twice the diameter of the average sized blueberry of the same variety.
Germany’s Oktoberfest has been canceled this year because of the pandemic. No worries, Snyder’s of Hanover and Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in New York State are rolling out the pretzel keg. It keeps your beer and your pretzels together in one convenient package. It goes on sale Wednesday for just under 50-bucks.
