An Amish family in Fairchild has finally received a building permit to exempt them from building codes they say go against their religion.
Thanks to a change in state law Vera and Amos Borntreger will not have to install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and can remain in their home. The family signed the permit Monday. Steve Maley with Eau Claire County, inspected the Borntreger home before the signing. He says the family has 30 days to address minor issues but adds they all appear “do-able”.
