Barn Fire Near Mondovi Kills Nearly 4,000 Swine

News

Thousands of swine are dead after a large hog barn on the line with Buffalo and Trempealeau Counties caught fire Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out before 6 a.m. at Holden Farms on Gonty Rd., in the town of Naples, between Mondovi and Eleva.

A portion of the barn had collapsed overnight prior to the fire starting.

Fire crews from all over the area battled the blaze for several hours.

Approximately 4,000 swine were in the barn and the buffalo county sheriff’s department says a majority of the animals died in the fire.
