A new bill in Wisconsin would allow EMTs and firefighters to treat animals in emergency situations. Under current law in the state, only veterinarians are legally allowed to care for animals, including K-9 officers.
First responders often respond to emergency situations where a pet also needs medical care. Under the newly proposed bill, emergency responders would be able to treat animals after helping the people in crisis.
And they would be protected from any lawsuits if the animal does not survive. The bill will also give first responders immunity if they choose not to treat the animals.
