Pets were welcome during a special prayer service held Sunday in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire.
HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Hospitals hosted a “Blessing of the Animals” event.
The annual blessing is held on a Sunday near the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which is October 4.
St. Francis is the patron saint of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Hospitals.
He spent his life caring for the poor and had a love of animals.
Father John Schultz says there’s a famous story about St. Francis and a wolf in Italy.
“This wolf was attacking the town and destroying the animals and bothering the people. Francis walked in and pet the wolf and the wolf became his friend, and they lived happily ever after,” said Father John A. Schultz.
Around 30 pets got in line for Sunday’s blessing, including one guinea pig and one cat.
Hospital staff say this event is a great way to bring pet owners in the community together.
