Big changes are on the way for the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire with plans to move to a bigger space.
The museum plans to move down the street to an empty lot, near the intersection of Galloway and Barstow Streets.
The decision was announced this morning at a redevelopment authority meeting.
With the new space, the museum will grow from about 15,000 square feet to 23,000 thousand.
There will also be an outdoor green space.
Museum director Michael McHorney says he’s excited for the change.
“We will be able to have parking for visitors we will be able to have the front entrance set back a little from the street we will be able to make the facility more accessible and safer…. We are really excited to keep what we have but have some new aspects of play for those who come through our doors,” said McHorney.
McHorney says the community will have the opportunity to share what they’d like to see in the new space in some upcoming “dream catching sessions.”
The goal is to open the new museum by the end of 2021.
