La Crosse fire crews battled a structure fire in the 300 block of Rose Street early Wednesday morning.
The address was a known abandoned, condemned property with possible transient residents. When crews responded, they found a fully involved detached garage to the rear of the house.
After gaining control of the blaze, the residence was searched and confirmed to be vacant. The surrounding, exposed properties were protected, and residents were sheltered in place.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
