A recent drug investigation in Fairchild led to multiple arrests and on Monday, two men were charged in connection to the case. Authorities say an anonymous tip line helped point them in the right direction.
“There is a lot of credibility in these tips,” said Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer.
Since it started in 2016, severe crimes such as sexual assault, threats and drug cases have been called into crime stoppers in Eau Claire County.
”We always say it’s like a pointer system, get us pointed in the right direction, let us do our job and then we will put the case together,” said Sheriff Cramer.
The anonymous tip line recently played a role in a drug bust in Fairchild, when three men were arrested for meth and heroin distribution.
“There are a lot of people nervous in Fairchild, they didn’t want to come forward,” Sheriff Cramer added.
Sheriff Ron Cramer is encouraging the public to use crime stoppers to get more information in the case that could possibly involve human trafficking.
“If there was a sexual assault, if these girls were given narcotics that were in exchange, it’s going to be an embarrassing situation for them to report,” Cramer said.
Cases similar to this are where Crime Stoppers comes in and the public can leave anonymous information for law enforcement. Whether you download the app on your smart phone, log onto the desktop computer or simply pick up the phone to dial in your tip, there’s plenty of ways to use Crime Stoppers.
“And then that number is sent to a database in Texas I believe and they look at, coordinate it with the appropriate law enforcement,” said Barbara Teslaw, a member of the board for Eau Claire County Crime Stoppers.
In three years, Eau Claire County Crime Stoppers have received close to 700 tips, leading to numerous arrests.
“What we can do to help our families and our business and our community feel safer because it’s kind of a scary world out there,” Teslaw said.
