Nine charges were filed today against Damian Stauffer — the Chippewa County man accused of hurting two people, including a child, then stealing a police vehicle. The 20-year-old Eau Claire man was charged with — among other things — physical abuse of a child, burglary and battery to a law enforcement officer.
This all stems from a domestic dispute on the 3300 block of Runway Avenue. That location in Eau Claire lies within Chippewa County.
The complaint alleges that on the night of March 6th, Stauffer hurt a three-year-old boy then left on foot. It stated the 3-year-old likely had a broken arm and was taken to Mayo Hospital. When Stauffer was found, investigators say he began punching an officer, then stole a squad car, sped off, and crashed it.
A $25,000 cash bond put in place last week was continued. Stauffer’s attorney refused comment. A pre-trial hearing for Stauffer was scheduled for April 13th.
