Democrats on the U.S. House Intelligence Committee are defending the official investigations into claims of Russian meddling in the last presidential election.
They released a redacted, unclassified memo on the issue today. The ten-page document was posted online. It calls an already-released republican memo a — quote — “transparent effort to undermine” investigations by the FBI, justice department, and special counsel Robert Mueller.
The memo defends the FBI’s obtaining of warrants to conduct temporary surveillance of Carter Page, an adviser to President Trump during his campaign.
The Democrats say the FBI assessed Page “to be an agent of the Russian government.”
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders says the democratic memo is — in her words — “politically driven.”
