With the extra “foot” traffic comes a lot of driving traffic…

We’re expecting thousands of spectators and additional individuals in ec that day. We’re bringing in

Approx. 40 officers to help keep everybody safe. Make sure runners crossing intersections are safe and help direct traffic.

Earlier today, the Eau Claire police department posted no parking signs along the race route…

They say this is to make sure drivers are aware ahead of time, so your vehicle doesn’t end up towed….

Officer Brigit Coit has a few tips for community members ahead of Sunday’s race…

A couple of streets to really pay attention to that will be making travel difficult will be water street. Water street is basically going to be closed from Menomonie down to summit ave. In addition, Riverview drive is pretty much shut down for a good chunk of the morning.

The downtown area is going to be extremely congested. We’re not allowing any traffic in the park after 6 a.m…so no vehicles in the park after 6 a.m.

Eau Claire marathon executive director pat Toutant says 5-thousand runners will take part in this weekend’s marathon…

“we grow it out a little bit each year, but we are very careful as we grow because we want to maintain quality and I think that we have done that.  And as we learn we can figure out ways to do it.  So, for example in the half marathon we have corrals, so everyone doesn’t start at the same time, and that just helps the runners stretch out and get into their pace earlier, it’s chipped time so it doesn’t matter where your start.”

For those who want to get into the marathon spirit early, Toutant says runners and spectators should check out the expo at McPhee phy ed center on the campus of UW-Eau Claire… That runs from 10 am until 5 pm… A highlight this year will be the 5th annual Cheri uelmen’s fun kids run Saturday afternoon.
