FDA Looks to Approve Mixing of COVID-19 Vaccines

(WLAX/WEUX) – The FDA is looking to approve mixing COVID-19 vaccines when it comes to a third dose.

Approval would mean if your initial doses were of Pfizer, your third dose could be Moderna and vice versa.

Prevea Health Chief Medical Officer Ken Johnson says the FDA is looking at a small study already conducted on the effectiveness of mix and matching vaccines.

Johnson said, “It shows that mixing and matching was effective, but it did not recommend one over the other.”

“They could not say whether getting three shots of the same or two shots of one and then a shot of a different one was superior. There weren’t enough people in the study to say that.”

Johnson says the FDA could make a decision as soon as next week, but it still has to be approved by the CDC.
