The former school district official accused of having a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old is scheduled to reach a plea deal in his case, avoiding a jury trial.
60-year-old Steven Smolek has held various roles in several districts around the state.
He was employed at the Mosinee School District for nearly two decades.
Smolek served as assistant superintendent of schools for the Diocese of La Crosse in 2015, until his resignation several months later.
Smolek is charged with child enticement, exposing his genitals, and sex with a child 16 or older.
A plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27 in Marathon County.
