Some might think the Gilmanton Free Fair is just another fair, but locals say there’s something special about this annual event.
From bunny judging to bike races, charcoal chicken to carnival rides there isn’t much excluded from this fair’s lineup of events and activities. Touted as Wisconsin’s “Biggest Little Fair,” the Gilmanton Free Fair has something for everyone.
“The name for the biggest little fair is just kind of proof in the pudding,” Gilmanton Community Club member Ashley Henthorn said. “We have so many different events that appeal to different age groups from the tractor pull to the little league tournament and obviously to the carnival and just new events we try to get every year to bring more people in.”
The community comes together in more ways than one for the fair. The Gilmanton Community Club sponsors the fair but depends on non-members and members alike to make it run smoothly.
Many fair goers enjoy charcoal chicken and camaraderie during the three-day event.
“It’s like one big family reunion, we get to know everyone and it’s so much fun,” Miss Gilmanton 2018 Kaitlyn Johnson said.
The final day of the fair is dubbed “Sunday Funday” and features a parade, BBQ cook off and bean-bag tournament. From setup to take down, the Gilmanton Community Club estimates more than 300 people come together to make the fair run smoothly.
Proceeds from the Gilmanton Free Fair benefit the Gilmanton-area community.
