An active hostage situation this morning left a man dead and an officer wounded in Neenah. According to police, officers were called to a cycle shop around nine o’clock this morning for initial reports of a man with a firearm. They say at least three, but no more than ten people were taken hostage.
Police tried to enter the building to get those hostages and were shot at. One officer suffered minor injuries when his helmet deflected a bullet. Soon after, a man came out of the shop with a gun and wouldn’t comply with officers, was shot, and died from his injuries.
Police say this is not the same man who caused the initial disturbance. Police negotiated with the suspect over the phone for hours and the hostages were released unharmed. Around one o’clock today the man surrendered and was taken into custody.
