The cold weather is arriving and that means so is flu season.
Both Gundersen Health System and Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare have flu clinics open around the Coulee Region.
The Centers for Disease Control recommends that everyone six months or older receives a flu shot.
This year, the nasal spray will be available in a limited quantity.
Health officials say the vaccine is the best way to prepare for a potentially unpredictable flu.
“With all the viruses that circulate and being immunized against the flu, that’s one thing that you know what it isn’t. Cause the flu is horrible, I mean fatalities, hospitalizations,” said Gundersen Health System Registered Nurse Cathy Morris.
“It can be very hard to determine what strains of the flu are going to be circulating from year to year.
The CDC works very hard at trying to determine what the trends are going to be and then they use that information to basically build the vaccination,” said Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare Nurse Practitioner Amanda Dernbach.
Health officials say it is too early to know how this flu season will compare to previous years.
Neither Gundersen Health System or Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare have received a flu case so far.
