$25,000 bond set for suspect in Clark County highway worker’s death

CLARK COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A 25-thousand-dollar cash bond has been set for a 28-year-old Neillsville man charged in connection with the death of a Clark County highway worker and injuring another.

Cory Neumueller appeared in Clark County Court Tuesday and is charged with four counts including homicide and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle and hit and run resulting in death and great bodily harm.

According to the criminal complaint, Neumueller hit the two highway workers who were clearing a tree from the roadway around 1 a.m. on August 8.

 57-year-old Russell Opelt was killed. The complaint says 60-year-old David Murphy lost his leg.

Investigators add Neumueller admitted to drinking before the crash and a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of .104.
