EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Probable cause was found in the case of an Eau Claire man charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide.

A preliminary hearing was held today for 26-year-old Austin Vang. An arraignment has yet to be scheduled.

Vang is tied to the shooting death last week of 14-year-old Marwan Washington on Eau Claire’s north side.

According to the criminal complaint, Vang told police he was “horsing around” with his gun, forgot it was loaded, and shot Washington in the neck.

Vang said he immediately dialed 911 and tried to stop the bleeding. He surrendered to police when they arrived.

Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and Washington died at the scene.
