A local hospital is hosting babysitting classes this summer, teaching kids skills beyond the basics.

HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire is holding one-day instructional workshops for young adolescents ages 10 to 12 years old.

Topics covered include babysitting as a business, baby care essentials, personal safety, behavior management, basic first aid and ethics.

Completion cards are given to students who pass a written exam.

“It’s a lot of information packed into a seven hour day…some is lecture …but some is hands on and its interactive, we’ve just had a really good response,” said HSHS Community Health Educator, Kelly Laucher.

The cost of the class is $25 and includes lunch, snacks, and class materials.

The next class will be held on July 15th.
