State superintendent Tony Evers made several stops across western Wisconsin to surprise teachers and recognize them for their hard work.
Evers visited North Star Middle School this morning and had a surprise for a local teacher. Evers announced Sue Devine as the Wisconsin middle school teacher of the year.
Devine teaches seventh and eighth grade science and social studies. She’ll receive three thousand dollars from the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. Devine says she’s not the only teacher deserving of the award.
“Every staff member at North Star Middle School should have a piece of this plaque. If I could cut it up into all the pieces of the staff here. We all care for those kids.”
Devine wasn’t the only teacher being recognized. This afternoon Evers also awarded Holmen Agri-science teacher Roger King with the High School Teacher of the Year award.
Both King and Devine will get their awards at the state of education address in Madison on September 17th.
