Assembly Speaker and Senate Leader urge Big Ten to kick off fall football

Local News

MADISON, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Wisconsin’s top two republicans added their names to an open letter by a Michigan lawmaker that urges Big Ten Officials to reconsider their decision to cancel the fall football season.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald joined eight other GOP lawmakers to the letter. It argues that by not going ahead with the season, the student athlete’s long-term academic and professional careers are being put at risk.

It comes a day after UW-Madison’s Chancellor directed students to restrict in-person interactions and limit movement for only essential activities for two weeks to stem a potential campus-wide outbreak.
