Barron County Sherriff’s deputy did not violate department policy in recent Mikana stand-off

BARRON COUNTY, Wis.  (WLAX/WEUX) – A review panel determined a Barron County Sheriff’s deputy did not violate any department policy in a recent shooting incident.

The shooting happened earlier this month In the unincorporated community of Mikana.

That’s between the cities of Rice Lake and Birchwood.

During a standoff, the Barron County Sheriff’s Office says a male suspect aimed a firearm at deputy Anthony Weigand.

The suspect was then shot by Weigand.

Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says Weigand followed all use-of-force procedures and was justified in his actions.

He has been placed back on active duty.

The most recent update by the Barron County Sheriff’s Office on the suspect was from last week. It stated the suspect was in critical but stable condition.
