LA CROSSE, Wisc. (WLAX) — September is National Honey Month, marking the end of the honey collection season in the US.
In addition to being “nature’s sweetener,” honey also offers a plethora of other benefits, according to Heather Krieger, a dietitian for HSHS St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart hospitals. She said it can be used for cosmetics, to soothe a sore throat and even for wound care. It is also known to stop hiccups, relieve eczema and even improve sleep,
Krieger said it is important to know where your honey comes from and how it was produced.
According to the CDC, honey should not be given to children younger than 12 months.
