SHAWANO COUNTY Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Several teens are hurt after a bonfire explosion in Shawano County over the weekend. The sheriff’s office says it happened at a home in the town of Maple Grove where a number of people had gathered for a bonfire Friday night.

Deputies say an accelerant was poured onto the fire causing it to expand out of control. Several people including Pulaski Community School District students were taken to area hospitals and treated for serious burns.

The Superintendent of the Pulaski School District released a statement responding to the incident, saying in part:

“Although we don’t have detailed information, we want to provide support to our students and families. Information will be forthcoming to our students through canvas on ways to connect with our school counselors.”
