Bookkeeper under arrest for $114,000 outstanding in business theft case

Local News

An Eau Claire woman is accused of issuing nearly a quarter-million dollars in checks to herself, from where she worked. Today, she was charged with theft.

A complaint was issued in Eau Claire county court for 38-year-old Sarah Girard. She worked for Don’s Sheet Metal as a bookkeeper from April of 2012 to December 2018.

During that time, it was discovered she had $234,700 worth of checks issued to herself. A written agreement between Girard and the owner of Don’s was in place to pay back the money. But then, she claimed she was no longer able to make payments.

Through the salary she earned while working for Don’s Sheet Metal, more than $114,000 was still outstanding.

Girard is free tonight on a $1,000 signature bond.
