Cheering students and staff filled the halls and gym at Owen-Withee today to celebrate the end of chemotherapy treatment for a student.
Senior Will Maki received a warm welcome from his teammates, classmates, and the community as he returned to school from his treatment. Will was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on July 1st and lost his leg to the cancer in September but has continued to fight.
Terry Laube, the head football coach at Owen-Withee says Will is a fighter.
“We’re in it to be with Mak through this process and give him the support and love and the positive reinforcement. And more importantly, when he comes to the locker room, we’re going to let him just be a kid again. This is a big day because in the game of life, he just got a win and that’s what is important really.”
During Will’s treatment, he never missed a football game.
