Chetek man taken into custody after hours-long standoff

CHETEK, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – More details have been released following an hours long standoff in Chetek Monday night.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department says Chetek police were called around 4:00 PM Monday to 35-year-old Kevin Swartz’s home on a report that a man was acting strange and paranoid.

Neighbors were evacuated when Swartz came out with what he said was an explosive device. 

After several hours of negotiations and use of gas, the response team entered the home.

Swartz, who had crawled into the ceiling, fell through, and was arrested just before 10 o’clock.

No explosive devices or weapons was in the home.
