CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – One man is being held in the Chippewa County Jail after leading deputies on a high-speed chase while having kids in his vehicle, and later, hiding in a dumpster.
This started just after 9 Monday night on West-Bound State Highway 29. A sheriff’s deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop between Lake Wissota and Cadott, but the vehicle took off and a pursuit began.
The driver was 56-year-old Gregory Knitter. Three other passengers were inside his vehicle during the chase, two were juveniles.
The pursuit ended when knitter crashed his vehicle and fled on foot. He was arrested soon after while trying to hide in a dumpster at a nearby apartment complex.
Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk says charges against knitter are expected. An initial appearance on the case is scheduled for July 6.
