CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Chippewa Falls Police Department is looking to add an officer to its ranks.
This is to replace one of its existing officers who will become a school resource officer for Chippewa Falls Middle School.
The City of Chippewa Falls approved an additional police officer for the department – increasing its force to 25 sworn officers.
Chief Matt Kelm says the new school resource officer will help with a growing need in the community.
“We’ve had a school resource officer program for the last 20 years. Primarily – yes – they were at the high school, because that was the main need there, but they also covered the middle school. So, they were kind of doing two jobs. As the years progressed, especially with what we’re seeing here coming up, it just became too much for one person,” said Kelm.
The new SRO starts at Chippewa Falls Middle School in September.
Chief Kelm says the department is actively taking applications for a new patrol officer.
