CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Local veterans were honored with a special salute and story display at Chippewa Manor’s annual Veterans Day Celebration. Since 2009, Chippewa Manor staff members have interviewed every resident who served in the armed forces. To honor them and remember their sacrifice, a special display with over 130 local veteran stories was unveiled.

David Steinmetz graduated from Bloomer High School and joined the US Navy. He is one of the many veterans to share his story. Steinmetz says the holiday is about honoring the sacrifice made by over 16 million veterans in the US, “Because it reminds people what some of these people did for their country. You know, put your life on the line.”

The celebration ended with a color-guard flag presentation and gun salute by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
