CHIPPEWA VALLEY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Chippewa Valley Regional Airport may be clearing some trees and adding new fencing.
Not everyone supports the proposed changes to the edge of the airport. Some people who live near it are concerned about the ideas… Which would reduce wildlife around the airport. They fear it will also hurt the environment.
However, the airport’s director says fewer animals around the airport makes it less likely one will reach the runway.
Charity Zich, Chippewa Valley Regional Airport Director said, “Protecting the safety of the aircraft operating at the airport is the most important thing we and wildlife management is just one of the layers of safety at the airport.”
She says the airport’s already safe, but the project will make it safer. The airport is relying on getting a federal grant to pay for it.
Work likely won’t start before the fall of 20-22.
Zich also says the airport hopes to work with its neighbors on the project.
