EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Veterans Tribute in Altoona’s River Prairie is one step closer to being completed. Monday, crews laid down concrete at the memorial.
It will honor members of the military from our area who fought in battle from the Civil War to the war in Afghanistan.
The Chippewa Valley didn’t have a tribute to honor Veterans before this one, something organizers are excited to change.
“We couldn’t be more honored to say thank you to our veterans for all they’ve done for us because Eau Claire County is the largest county in the state to currently not have a tribute to their veterans and now with this one including the whole Chippewa Valley that could be check off as we got one now,” said Mark Beckfield, Chippewa Valley Veterans Tribute Foundation.
Memorial Day will mark the next milestone for the project. That’s when three bronze statues will be placed at the park
