EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The city of Eau Claire is proposing higher fees to accept yard waste at its brush site on Jeffers Road
For the past five years, Boxx Sanitation, a local garbage collection service has run the site. They have since decided not to continue operations after a key employee retired.
Steve Plaza is the manager of the city’s parks, forestry, cemeteries, building and grounds. He says they didn’t want the site sitting idle this spring, prompting the city to resume operations, which may come at a slightly higher price.
Plaza said, “We’re just looking to cover our costs, to maintain that brush site for staffing and grinding up the material. We know the brush site is a vital part of keeping our environment safe, green waste is always positive.”
One change under the new proposal includes paying 15 to 20-dollars for unloading a pick-up truck bed full of waste, opposed to paying between five and ten dollars with Boxx.
If the proposed hike in green waste fees gets approved by the city council, the tentative opening date for the site is April 28.
