EAU CLAIRE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A civil suit is filed in federal court against former Eau Claire County District Attorney Gary King. The lawsuit was filed by Jessica Bryan, who worked closely with King as the victim-witness coordinator.
Bryan is one of several employees in the DA’s office who reported earlier this year King made inappropriate comments and would sometimes be drunk in the office and at court proceedings. The court documents claim King made sexual comments to Bryan almost monthly, and once tried to kiss her and forced her on his lap.
In February of 2021, Bryan made a formal complaint to Eau Claire County human resources. The documents say Bryan was told because King was the DA, Eau Claire County quote “could not touch him.” King resigned as DA this past summer. Bryan’s attorney says she is filing the suit because she wants to be someone who stands up against this sort of conduct.
Bryan’s Attorney Paul Kinne said, “She wants to be a role model to women out there who face abuse from people in power. She wants them to know through her example that it’s possible to stand up to them and to do justice and to make the world and the workplace better place and a place a safer for women.”
We did reach out to Gary King for comment but have not heard back. The court documents say he has 21 days to respond to the lawsuit.
