LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The La Crosse community has raised half a million dollars to help students struggling with basic needs.
The La Crosse Education Foundation has provided the Random Acts of Kindness Program for twenty years, giving funds to schools to support children in need of clothing or school supplies.
Generous donations from the community have now created a forever fund that will generate annual income for the program.
School officials are excited that students will benefit from random acts of kindness for years to come.
Wally Gnewikow, La Crosse Logan High School Principal said, “I am extremely grateful to the donors who have worked with the la crosse public education foundation to be able to remove those obstacles for many of our students in the way of both their education and then just feeling like any of their peers.”
The forever fund will offset roughly two-thirds of the cost of the program each year.
This will make it easier for the public education foundation to avoid limiting spending due to fluctuations in fundraising.
