EAU CLAIRE/CHIPPEWA CO., Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – This week brings a shift in Eau Claire County’s COVID-19 stats as the total number of positive tests from people in their 20s surpasses 50 percent. Today’s update marks the county’s third-highest single-day increase. 50 new cases bring the county-wide total to more than 13- hundred.
The number of deaths remains at six. The amount of recovered cases sits at just more than 80 percent.
11 more cases reported today in Chippewa County, putting the county’s total at 432. This marks an increase of 43 cases from last Wednesday. While the numbers may seem low compared to La Crosse and Eau Claire counties, Public Health Director Angela Weideman says Chippewa County’s rising positivity rate is a source of concern.
“Looking at the last week that are positivity rate is over 9 right now and that is the highest positivity rate that we have seen. Over the last two-week period, we have an 8.2% positivity rate. We are seeing less people going in for testing and more people that are going in for testing positive. So that overall rate of people going in the numbers are lower, but the number coming back positive are higher,” said Weideman.
For the sixth time in the past week, state health officials record at least 13- hundred new COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin in a single day.
Eight more deaths bring the total number of fatalities tied to COVID-19 to 1,228. The amount of recovered cases is at 87 percent.
