Coronavirus in Wisconsin State and local update: La Crosse and Eau Claire 1-15-21

EAU CLAIRE/LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Thousands of Eau Claire County residents have already received the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a media briefing yesterday afternoon, Eau Claire City-County Health Director Lieske Giese says she is looking forward to vaccinating even more people in the community.

Giese said, “As we get vaccine coming into the community, we get people vaccinated, we want to get shots in arms. More than 5,500 doses of vaccines have been given to Eau Claire County residents. Good news that we have again shots in arms of that many people.”

Eau Claire County is also nearing a new milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic. Eau Claire County is approaching 10- thousand total COVID-19 cases. The county adds 60 positive tests today and one new death for a total of 90.

An additional 74 cases of COVID-19 are reported out of Chippewa County.

La Crosse County’s case count increases by 31.

Wisconsin’s COVID-19 death rate rose to one point zero three percent today, which is the highest in 100 days.

42 more people have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Another 99 people are hospitalized with the virus.

The state adds 2,712 cases today for a positivity rate of 28 percent.
