Coronavirus in Wisconsin State and local update: La Crosse and Eau Claire 1-19-21

LA CROSSE/EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A look at today’s COVID-19 numbers as Wisconsin nears 55 hundred deaths.

Starting with the state, new positive tests increased by close to 11-hundred since yesterday. Deaths rose by 19. Another 54 cases needed hospitalization and Wisconsin’s 7-day positivity average is at its lowest since the day after Christmas.

Locally, Eau Claire County’s new cases total increased by 18. The 7-day positivity rate is at 28 percent.

Chippewa County tacks on 21.

La Crosse County adds 53.

Dunn County moves up by 11.

Barron County sees 71 new cases and 64 overall deaths.

The La Crosse County Health Department is seeking out 1a individuals who still need to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The health department is looking for organizations with healthcare workers who do not work for Mayo or Gundersen. Its goal is to create a list of these employers to reach out once the vaccine is available for their employees. Some examples of 1a individuals are chiropractors, dental assistants, school nurses, and eye clinic staff. The CDC has a complete list for 1a eligibility.
