LA CROSSE/EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it’s becoming harder for communities to avoid seeing fatalities happen due to the virus.
Today, Chippewa County announced its first death linked to COVID-19. Health officials tell WEAU they are not releasing any details on the fatality, out of respect to the impacted family.
In a statement, Chippewa County Health Director Angela Weideman said, “As we navigate through this hard and trying time, Chippewa County continues to work diligently with local, state, and national partners to coordinate our response to COVID-19.”
The Coulee COVID-19 collaborative shows three more fatalities in La Crosse County tied to the virus. That brings the overall count to 13.
The State Department of Health Services shows 31 new cases of COVID-19 in La Crosse County today. Other daily increases today, Eau Claire County adds 4 to now sit at an even 24 hundred, and Dunn County tacks on eight positive tests.
A Wisconsin judge has upheld Governor Tony Evers’ mask mandate in the face of a conservative challenge.
A St. Croix County Circuit ruled this morning that Evers did not overstep his authority by issuing multiple emergency orders on the coronavirus. Evers says the mask order was within his power and that he has followed the recommendations of public health experts. The lawsuit argued that Evers can issue only one emergency declaration per crisis.
Statewide, the number of new positive cases is less than two thousand today. That’s the first time the figure was below 2 thousand in eight days.
Deaths increased by nine, and the total of recovered cases sits at 79-point-6 percent.
