EAU CLAIRE/LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Deaths continue to mount in our area from COVID-19.
Today, the State Department of Health Services shows six new fatalities linked to the virus in Chippewa County. That brings the total there to 19.
Four more deaths announced in Eau Claire County, that tally stands at 16.
Eau Claire City-County Health Director Lieske Giese says all of the new fatalities were over the age of 65 and had underlying health conditions.
Giese said, “Since September 7, we’ve been at or above a range of daily cases, 25 or more, where we would, by some national standards be recommending everybody stay at home and it’s certainly not something we take lightly, but we are really asking people to pay attention to what they’re doing and take this seriously.”
Today marks the fourth day in the last six where new COVID-19 cases in Eau Claire County were more than 100.
Chippewa County also saw a 100-plus increase for a second-straight day.
La Crosse County’s 100-plus increase in COVID-19 positive tests today was their first in a month.
Dunn County’s 36 new cases brings their overall tally to more than 11-hundred since the pandemic hit.
