Wisc. (WLAX/WEUX) – A program in the Coulee Region is helping older adults dealing with brain-related illnesses. The oasis res-spit program was started by causeway caregivers in La Crosse.
Volunteers connect with older adults diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The program coordinator says Oasis not only serves patients, but it also provides some weekly relief for caregivers.
Sara Wrobel of Oasis said, “We have brain activities, creative activities, and socialization for those with a diagnosis, and the flip side of that is it frees up four hours for a caregiver to take a nap, take a break, to simply exhale.” A discovery day was held today for anyone wanting to learn more about oasis. The program is held every Thursday at First Free church in Onalaska.
