MILWAUKEE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies are getting ready to perform once again at their community’s annual Christmas parade. The Grannies were marching in the parade in Waukesha on November 21st of last year when a driver sped onto the parade route and hit dozens of people with his SUV.

Six people were killed, and more than 60 others were hurt. Three grannies and one of the group member’s husbands were among those who died. With the one-year anniversary today, the Grannies have decided it’s time to dance again.

“None of us had to keep on dancing. We chose to do it because it is the joy it brings that trumps the sorrow. It really is.”

Earlier this month, a jury found driver Darrell Brooks guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and other charges. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
