LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Derrick Van Orden defeated his opponent Jessi Ebben in the Wisconsin 3rd Congressional District Republican primary.

Van Orden received more than 73% of the vote, and the Associated Press called the race at approximately 9:50 p.m. August 11.

Now Van Orden, a former Navy seal, will look to November as he challenges Democrat incumbent Ron Kind. Van Orden has been critical of Kind’s work ethic, and will strive to unseat the representative who has held that seat since 1997.

As the Republican primary race was being called in Van Orden’s favor he released this statement:

“I would like to thank our Third District Caucus for their endorsement today. This is the first step in uniting our party and our fellow Western Wisconsin neighbors to bring accountability and our values back to Washington DC. I will work tirelessly to earn this every day.”
