Several local agencies and other volunteers are doing their part to prevent prescription drug abuse. A national prescription drug take-back day will be held at Marshfield clinic in Eau Claire and the River Country Plaza in Cadott from 10am to 2pm tomorrow. The goal is to safely dispose of unused, unwanted and old prescription drugs.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, prescription drug abuse has increased 260 percent in recent years. By providing places for people to properly dispose of prescription drugs, they hope to limit drug abuse.
Pharmacist Brenda Schlafer: “I don’t think people always know where the particular designated drop-off sites are throughout the community, so I think it’s probably an easy, convenient spot for them to drop off.”
Prescription drug drop offs are free to the public.
